Workshop Objectives
Participants will be able to:
Identify current trends in school bullying
Identify and define the three types of bullying
Develop a step-by-step intervention plan
Develop an awareness of cyber-bullying
Workshop Overview
This workshop was developed to provide parents with the knowledge that will allow them to provide support for the child who is bullied and for the child who may be a bully.
Presenter
Denise Boyd Houchins is a licensed social worker that has been with the Barren River District Health Department for 13 years. She is part of the Community Health Promotion Branch, which has an emphasis on public health education and community partnership building. Ms. Houchins'previous experience includes 10 years as a social worker in a private childcare setting, working specifically with juvenile offenders and adolescents with substance abuse issues.
6:00 – 6:30 “Peer Pressure Today…How Parents CAN Help.”
Overview:
This class was developed specifically for parents or caregivers.
In this class we will discuss sources of peer pressure for youth and how parents can help install a sense of worth and self esteem to help them stand up to the pressure.

Selina Blick works as part of the Community Health Promotion team of the Barren River District Health Department. She is a Health Educator based in Logan County and has degree in Public and Community Health from WKU.
