Volleyball Wins

Congratulations to the Lady Bears volleyball team for starting their season with several wins. They played in the Kickoff Tourney and won all three games.

There have been two nights of season play as well. Both A and B teams beat Olmstead and then again last night both A and B teams beat Lewisburg.

The next game is August 25th at Adairville. Our first home game is August 28th at 5:30pm. Come out and join us as we play Russellville. Congratulations to the players and coaches.

Family Fun Night

We will have our first Family Fun Night on September 2nd from 5-7pm. There will be several events going on that night, so we hope you will come out and join us.

Events include
  • Book Fair

  • Visiting author, C. C. Payne, will be here to read to children and sign books at the Book Fair. She will be here sharing her books that day during school to grades 2-6. She is the author of Something to Sign About.

  • Preschool through 2nd grade will have "safari" activities with Curious George visiting too.

  • Parents and students of 3rd-6th grade will have the opportunity to hear from Hope Harbor. with an Internet safety program: NetSmartz.org. This is an interactive, educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that uses age-appropriate activities to teach children how to stay safer on the Internet.
The program will be offered at two different times so you can enjoy the other activities going on that night. The two times for you to attend will be at 5:10 or 6:10. The program will last approximately 45 minutes. We feel that students need to be aware of the dangers on the Internet and have the savvy to know what to do when they encounter them. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Winchester at 542-4139.

  • There will also be math activities for grades K-3.

  • Middle school students are welcome to come work in the computer lab for open lab time on Study Island, Math Whizz, etc.

Light refreshments are also provided for those attending the family night. There is also a volleyball game that night, but separate admission is required to attend. We hope you'll come out to family night and catch a volleyball game too.

Math Facts in a Flash

We have CD's available for checkout if you would like to help your child practice their math facts. We reward students who successfully complete the Math Facts in a Flash program here at school. These CD's reinforce what your child is learning at school. They are compatiable with most home computers. Please email or call the school office and we'll check on out in your child's name in send to their classroom.

Fundraising Starts Today

We are beginning a fundraiser today with the Great American Fundraising Company. The money we raise for this will go to help offset the costs of field trips (with the higher gas prices), bring in more assemblies, and help to update our sign out front. Many of you have noticed how our sign is beginning to show its age. Hopefully we'll be able to do something about that.

This is NOT a door-to-door sale. It is strictly for familes and friends. The sales run from today, Aug 7-Aug 21st.

1. On Aug 8th turn in a postcard booklet and the company will mail catalogs to your friends and family out of town. They will be able to shop on-line and receive the items from the sale.

2. Have your "customers" to give you their money when they place the order. Orders are turned into homeroom teachers. We'll accept orders through the 21st.

Here's our goal: If everyone sells three items, the company says we'll have $10,000 towards our needs at the school. Whether we meet our goal or not, the school has already been booked for a BMX Bike Show with a member of Tony Hawke's team, Matt Wilhelm on October 30th. Students who sell 10 items will be considered VIPs and be able to have front row seats for the event. Students who sell 15 items will be VIPs and stay after the show to meet Matt and get a free autographed picture.

And if that's not enough incentive, Mrs. Brown will get "jumped" with a BMX bike!

We've not held a fundraiser in many years like this, so we hope that you will help us to achieve our goal for the student events as well as the sign. We do expect raising money for the sign to take 1-2 years to replace it, unless...

Thanks in advance for helping us make Chandler's a great place!

PTSO Meeting

There will be a PTSO Meeting on August 12th. It will be in the library at 5:30pm. Please come out and join us.

Cause for Celebration

As of this morning, August 5th, Chandler's Elementary is very proud to announce that we met all 10 out of 10 No Child Left Behind Goals. These results come from our CATS testing data in reading and math from the spring. CATS scores for all areas will be released in the fall.

We have to say thanks to all of those who work each and every day to make our school successful. Last year the students worked so hard! Also the teachers have really worked to help our students show their growth. The Logan County Board of Education has been very supportive of Chandle'rs and we want to thank them as well.

Our scores are a reflection of our students, our familes and our faculty and we want to say thank you to everyone helping us to reach our goals!

School Nurse

We have a school nurse now, her name is Marcy Duncan. Mrs. Marcy will be here Monday through Friday to be of assistance to our students.

In the back-to-school packets we sent home a "Registration, Authorizations, Certifications, and Consents" form and an "Administration of Medication Release" form. Both of these must be filled out in order for Mrs. Marcy to treat your child. The Medication Release form will allow her to give your child Tylenol, cough drops, etc. if they need this. You will not have to send this medication, but the Barren River Health Department will provide these if you consent.

Without these two forms on file, she cannot administer any medication or provide any services. The only service she could provide if you do not sign is emergency treatment for first aid.

If you send prescription medication to the school you will need to have the doctor to fill out the "Permission for Prescribed Medication" form. Most doctors will already have this form on file and you can ask us if you need a copy.

She is able to provide the following services:

  • immunizations

  • wellness visits (school physicals, NOT sports physicals)

  • hearing and vision screenings

  • scoliosis screenings

Please call Mrs. Marcy at our school number, 542-4139, if you have additional questions about her services.

What a wonderful week!

We've had a great first three days. Thank you to students, parents, and our faculty for a wonderful start to the year. We have created this blog for to bookmark and check back for news and information. Many of the teachers have created blogs for you to know more about the classrooms. Soon we will be updating our website. We would love to hear from you about what you need to have on the website. Please email us or give us a call with your suggestions.

Here are a few things you may need to know.

1. Breakfast is served at 7:20 am when the doors open.

2. Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classrooms by 7:45am.

3. Cross-country practice begins Monday at the high school. Contact Greg Howard if your third through eighth grader wants more information.
