The Logan County Board met last night and decided that we will go to school on Monday, February 16th.

We will also add two days to the end of the school year for make up days. Our last day will be May 29th (unless we miss more for school.)

Tournament News and a Correction

Congrats to the Lady Bears for their win over Adairville last night. The girls will play again on Monday night (see previous post for times.)

Book Fair

Lights, Camera, Book Fair is the theme of the book fair and the Family Fun Night scheduled on February 10th from 5-6:30 pm.

Book Fair began Wednesday and will be open through February 13th.

  • Parent Workshops (for parents of students of all ages): Bullying Prevention and Dealing with Peer Pressure. See below for additional information on these workshops.

5:15 – 5:45: Bullying: What Parents Should Know

Workshop Objectives
Participants will be able to:
Identify current trends in school bullying
Identify and define the three types of bullying
Develop a step-by-step intervention plan
Develop an awareness of cyber-bullying

Workshop Overview
This workshop was developed to provide parents with the knowledge that will allow them to provide support for the child who is bullied and for the child who may be a bully.

Presenter
Denise Boyd Houchins is a licensed social worker that has been with the Barren River District Health Department for 13 years. She is part of the Community Health Promotion Branch, which has an emphasis on public health education and community partnership building. Ms. Houchins'previous experience includes 10 years as a social worker in a private childcare setting, working specifically with juvenile offenders and adolescents with substance abuse issues.

6:00 – 6:30 “Peer Pressure Today…How Parents CAN Help.”

Overview:
This class was developed specifically for parents or caregivers.
In this class we will discuss sources of peer pressure for youth and how parents can help install a sense of worth and self esteem to help them stand up to the pressure.

Presenter:
Selina Blick works as part of the Community Health Promotion team of the Barren River District Health Department. She is a Health Educator based in Logan County and has degree in Public and Community Health from WKU.

Back to School

All looks well for a Tuesday return to school. We hope that everyone has power again and doing much better than this time last week. Unfortunately, the ground hog saw his shadow this morning. Let's hope he missed that one! With all we've missed, here is an update on school events:
  • Archery practice is cancelled for Tuesday, Feb 3rd.

  • Make up ball game on Tuesday night. We will have 8th grade night as well.

  • Lunch with Someone You Love is still planned for Feb 5th. We will take money through Feb 3rd, but after that we will not be able to order extra food. Money is due with reservation form by Feb 3rd.

  • Middle School Basketball and Cheerleading Tournaments are coming up. (Schedule will be posted in a separate blog entry.)

  • Chandler's will host the Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, Feb 7th. Doors will open 8am. 9:00 am Warm Ups. Competition actually begins at 10:45am. Admission is $3.00.

  • Chandler's Lady Bears play Adairville on Feb 5th at 6:30pm.

  • Chandler's Bears play Olmstead on Feb 12th at 7:30pm.

  • Book Fair begins on Feb 4th and goes through the 13th. We will have a Family Fun Night on Feb 10th.
