What a FABULOUS Season!

Our girl's volleyball team has had a wonderful season. Regular season play ended in a 9-1 record for both A and B. On Thursday night the girls finished out tournament play by defeating Olmstead to win the Logan County Middle School Volleyball Tournament. We will be having a volleyball banquet at 6pm on October 16th just following Parent-Teacher Conferences to celebrate their season. Thanks to all the hard work and dedication each and every player put into the season. Thanks to Coach Kelly Carpenter and Coach Kristi Porter for their help to our team!

Fundraising Information

The whole staff, and especially the students, want to thank you for all the work that was completed on our fundraiser this year. Our grand total so far stands at approximately $6,500. (We'll give you a complete total later when the magazine orders are tallied by the company.)

This means so much to our students. We'll be able to pay for more of the field trips than we would have because of this gas situation we all find ourselves in. Additionally, we will be able to bring in assemblies to the school. (We've already had one on science!) We'll put some of the money back towards improving the sign at the road and maybe in the next few years we'll see that come together.

For those who are anxious about the BMX show, it is scheduled for October 30th.

We expect the fundraising items to be in within the next week to week and a half. It will take us a few days to separate the orders, but hopefully they will be ready when you return from fall break.

Thank you to all who helped, sold, donated money, and especially the time you put into it. On behalf of all the students, THANK YOU!

Volleyball Tournament

The Volleyball Tournament begins tonight at LCHS. Our team has had a phenomenal season! Our A and B teams both finished the season with 9 wins and 1 loss. This puts our team in the first seed position.

Our first match is tonight around 7pm. We will play the winner of the Lewisburg and Olmstead match. If we win, we play again at 8pm. Both of these matches are in the auxiliary gym. If we lose, we play again on Thursday night at 5:30pm.

The championship game is Thursday night at 7:30. We're hoping to be there!!

GOOD LUCK GIRLS!

Thoroughbred Readers

Our Accelerated Reader program has changed slightly this year. Instead of focusing on just point goals, our focus is on reading on the appropriate level for each child.

All students in the building are working on "Certification Levels." These levels begin in Kindergarten and grow with the students throughout all years here at Chandler's. As a student's abilties in reading grow, they earn certification goals and progress to the next level.

We are also starting something called Thoroughbred Readers. This program is completely voluntary. Students who sign up are given a list of "must read" books for their grade level. These are books that are high quality literature and books that every child should read. If your child chooses to be a Thoroughbred Reader, they have all year to read a certain number of books from the choices on their grade level list.

The requirements are to read the book and pass the AR test (Students in Kindergarten may have the book read to them by a parent or a teacher).

At the end of the year, all students who complete these requirements will be invited to a celebration. If you have questions, let us know. Please visit our "Parents" page on the school website to see the list of books for your child's grade level.

Basketball Tryouts and Sports Physicals

Basketball Tryouts will begin the week we return from fall break. Please check our website for detailed information about times and dates. Each child wishing to tryout must have a current sports physical. If you need to download the physical, click here. If you have additional questions, please contact Mr. Swatzell or Mr. Fleming.
